Biography

Hyrum Harris is one of New Zealand basketball's premier forwards, known for his toughness, versatility, and relentless competitiveness.

Born in Rotorua and a product of Fraser High School, Harris began his professional career in the NZNBL before taking his game overseas. His basketball journey has included stints with the Super City Rangers, Hawke's Bay Hawks, Southland Sharks, and Manawatu Jets, alongside an extensive career in Australia's NBL with the Illawarra Hawks, Cairns Taipans, Adelaide 36ers, and Perth Wildcats. He has also represented New Zealand on the international stage as a member of the Tall Blacks, including appearances during the FIBA Basketball World Cup campaign.

Standing at 198cm, Harris has built a reputation as one of the most complete two-way players in the game. His ability to impact every facet of a contest through scoring, rebounding, playmaking, and defence has made him a valuable asset wherever he has played.

Harris first joined the Wellington Saints for the 2024 season and quickly became a cornerstone of the club's success, bringing leadership, energy, and professionalism to the group. He returned for the 2025 campaign, where he earned NZNBL Defensive Player of the Year honours and played a pivotal role in helping the Saints secure their 13th National Basketball League championship. Harris delivered one of the great Grand Final performances in club history, recording 20 points and 14 rebounds on his way to being named Grand Final MVP.
