The Mills Albert Saints are excited to announce that Sam Gold will return to Wellington for the 2026 New Zealand National Basketball League season, continuing his journey with one of the league’s most dynamic and promising homegrown forwards.
Gold, a 201 cm forward, has steadily developed into a reliable contributor for the Saints. At just 24 years old, he brings size, energy and versatility on both ends of the floor, making him a valuable piece of Wellington’s rotation. During the 2025 campaign, Gold appeared in multiple games and contributed across points, rebounds and defensive effort, showcasing his ongoing growth within the club’s system.
A Tawa College product, Gold also honed his skills overseas while playing collegiate basketball, experiences that have helped shape his game and translated into impactful minutes in the NZNBL.
“Having Sam back for another season is pivotal for our title defense. His versatility and competitive nature gives us great balance and consistency. Excited for him to take another big step in our program this season” - Head Coach, Aaron Young
Gold’s return adds continuity and depth for the Saints as they aim to build off recent success and continue to compete at the highest levels in 2026.
"Very happy to get Sam back on board for the 2026 season. Someone who has spent time with the club since 2021 on and off with his US college career, this season coming will be the first time he gets a full preseason and year under his belt. A local product with a lot of upside and growth to come we think he will take a big step in helping us win games this season." - CEO, Jordan Mills
With his blend of size, athleticism, and team-first attitude, Gold exemplifies the type of player the Saints value. Fans can look forward to seeing his continued development and contributions this season.
