Mills Albert Saints Launch Limited-Edition Jersey to Fund Basketball Courts in Schools

As basketball surges in popularity across New Zealand, the Mills Albert Saints are taking bold steps to ensure the region’s youth don’t get left behind. Today, the Saints have launched a special limited-edition "Courts in Schools" jersey, with all proceeds helping fund the construction of basketball courts and hoops at schools throughout the Wellington region. This one off jersey will be worn on Saturday 21st June at TSB Arena as we take on the Tauranga Whai

This unique jersey isn’t just a symbol of support—it’s a direct investment in the future of our tamariki.

A Response to the Basketball Boom

Basketball is New Zealand’s fastest-growing sport, with participation up 61% since 2000. Yet while the love for the game grows, the infrastructure hasn’t kept pace. Wellington, in particular, faces a shortage of accessible courts for young people eager to play.

Wellington Saints CEO Jordan Mills describes the mission plainly: “In 2025, our goal is to build 5 new courts a year. Whether it’s on school grounds or council land, every hoop we install opens up a world of opportunity for our youth.”

Partnering with Mills Albert, Pak’nSave Lower Hutt and Kilbirne, and Rutherford & Bond Toyota, the Saints are turning vision into action—but they need community support to push further.

A Jersey With a Deeper Story

The one-off 2025 Courts in Schools jersey tells the powerful story of Ngake and Whataitai, the legendary taniwha of Te Whanganui-a-Tara. Designed by the talented Paegan Edmonds-Topia.

Ngake, displayed on the front, represents energy and courage—the bold force pushing boundaries.

Whataitai, on the back, embodies calm and resilience—reminding us that strength also lies in stillness.

Wearing this singlet is about more than just repping the team. It’s a commitment to helping build a future where every kid has a place to play, grow, and belong.

The Saints will wear this jersey when they take on the Tauranga Whai on Saturday 21st June, with all game worn kits being auctioned off post game with all proceds going towards more Courts in Schools

Be Part of the Change

“Basketball is a gateway—to health, community, and confidence,” says Mills. “But first, our kids need a court. This jersey helps us get there.”
