James Southerland III Joins The Team

The Wellington Saints have made a significant addition to their roster for the 2023 New Zealand National Basketball League (NZNBL) season, signing veteran forward James Southerland.

Southerland, a 31-year-old American, brings a wealth of experience to the Saints' squad, having played professionally in multiple countries over the past decade. Having completed his college career with Syracuse and now currently playing for the NBA G League Ignite franchise.

Saints GM Jordan Mills expressed his excitement about Southerland's arrival, stating that he will bring leadership, experience, and versatility to the team. "James is a proven scorer at the professional level and can play both forward positions, which will give us great flexibility in our lineup," Mills said. Mills also mentions the praise from a former Wellington Saint Import "James comes with really high-quality praise from one of the best imports we have had here in Eric Devendorf, they have played together in the past and we all think James will be a great fit for our club on and off the floor."

Southerland, who stands at 6'8, is looking forward to joining the Saints and contributing to their success. "I'm extremely excited about this opportunity to play with the Saints and can't wait to compete in New Zealand"

Southerland's experience will be invaluable for the Saints, who are aiming for championship thirteen. His versatility and ability to score from anywhere on the court will be a valuable asset to the team's offense.

The Wellington Saints have a reputation for bringing in top talent and providing them with a platform to showcase their skills. Southerland is the latest addition to this tradition, and his veteran experience will undoubtedly be an asset to the team's younger players.

The Saints will open their season on April 8th against the Hawkes Bay Hawks, season memberships are still available here, as well as individual game tickets here.
