Saints Get Win In Porirua
The Wellington Saints made a triumphant return to Te Rauparaha Arena on Sunday night, grinding out an 85–78 win over the Otago Nuggets in front of a packed Porirua crowd.
Back in the venue for the first time this season, the Saints fed off the energy of the home faithful to hold off a determined Nuggets side, improving their record as the playoff race tightens.
Nick Marshall led the way offensively with 24 points and 7 rebounds, showing poise in crunch time and attacking the rim with confidence. Forward Hyrum Harris was a force at both ends, finishing with a double-double of 15 points and 13 rebounds, setting the tone with his physicality and leadership.
“We love playing in Porirua,” said Saints head coach Aaron Young, “and tonight the crowd helped lift us. We had to dig deep, and I’m proud of the way our guys responded.”
The Nuggets were led by Jaylen Sebree, who poured in 22 points and added 9 rebounds, while Jonathan Janssen chipped in with 15 points and 6 boards. Despite a strong third-quarter push from the visitors, the Saints held firm in the final minutes, closing the game on a 9–2 run.
With the win, Wellington shifts focus to another crucial fixture on Wednesday night as they head north to face the Franklin Bulls on the road.
“It’s another big test for us,” added Harris. “We’re building momentum at the right time, and we’ve got to keep stacking wins.”
The Saints’ return to Porirua was more than just a homecoming — it was a statement that they’re gearing up for a serious postseason push.
