Saints Fall to Rams on the Road

The Mills Albert Wellington Saints faced a tough challenge on the road, falling to the Canterbury Rams in Christchurch in Round 2 action of the 2026 Sal’s NBL season.

In a physical contest against a strong Rams side, the Saints were tested throughout, with the home team building momentum early and maintaining control throughout the night.

Rams Set the Early Tone

Canterbury came out with energy and execution, putting the Saints under pressure from the opening stages.

Wellington worked to stay in touch early, but the Rams were able to dictate the tempo and build an advantage through consistent execution on both ends.

As the first half unfolded, the Saints were unable to find the rhythm needed to close the gap.

Rams Maintain Control

Through the middle quarters, Canterbury continued to apply pressure and extend their lead.

Wellington had moments where they looked to generate momentum, but struggled to sustain it, with the Rams responding quickly and keeping control of the contest.

The Saints were unable to put together the runs required to shift the flow of the game, with the margin remaining firmly in Canterbury’s favour.

Valuable Lessons on the Road

Against a well-performing Rams side, the Saints were forced to work for every opportunity.

The game highlighted areas to improve, particularly around consistency and execution across four quarters.

These early-season matchups, especially away from home, provide clear learning opportunities as the group continues to build.

Focus Turns to Nelson

The Saints now turn their attention to a quick turnaround, facing the Nelson Giants on the road this Saturday, April 25.

With a chance to respond immediately, Wellington will look to reset, sharpen their execution, and deliver a stronger performance in Nelson.
