Akech Aliir Signs For 2026

Saints Secure Signing of Akech Aliir Ahead of Upcoming Season

The Wellington Saints are pleased to announce the signing of versatile big man Akech Aliir for the upcoming season.

Currently plying his trade with the South East Melbourne Phoenix in the Australian NBL, the 6’9” Aliir adds size, athleticism, and versatility to the Saints’ frontcourt as the club continues to build an exciting and competitive roster.

Aliir brings valuable experience from one of the world’s toughest leagues and is well known to the Saints environment, having played alongside 2025 Saints Shea Ili and Nick Marshall over the past two seasons. Both Ili and Marshall believe Aliir will be a strong addition to the squad and thrive with an increased role in Wellington.

Saints CEO Jordan Mills shared his enthusiasm about the signing:

“We’re excited to get Akech here to Wellington and showcase his talent. He’s someone we all think will take a big leap this coming season with more responsibility to contribute at a high level every game. A versatile big man that can play both the five and four spots, can space the floor, handle the ball, and defend multiple positions — we think he’ll be a fantastic addition and incredibly exciting to watch for our fans.”

Known for his ability to impact the game at both ends of the floor, Aliir’s skill set allows him to stretch the court offensively while also providing defensive flexibility against multiple positions.

Quote from Head Coach Aaron Young

"Akech brings a unique skill set and motor that will fit our DNA as a club. Expect a relentless energy on both ends, led by his versatality across multiple positions. Grateful for his commitment to the Saints group, hes a perfect fit for the for the roster we are building

The Wellington Saints look forward to welcoming Akech Aliir to the capital and seeing him suit up in Saints colours in the coming season.
