Mercury Nonu joins the Wellington Saints as one of the most exciting young prospects emerging from New Zealand basketball.

The 6’2” guard has quickly built a reputation as a talented playmaker with strong leadership qualities, currently developing his game through Scots College and Splash Basketball in Wellington. A point guard who prides himself on making teammates better, Nonu combines court vision, pace and decision-making with a high basketball IQ beyond his years.

While carrying one of New Zealand sport’s most recognisable surnames as the son of All Blacks legend Ma’a Nonu, Mercury is firmly focused on creating his own path through basketball. His ambitions are set on US college basketball and future national team opportunities, with his recent call-up to the Saints providing an important step in that journey.

Nonu’s game is built around composure, discipline and an understanding of how to control the flow of a game. Comfortable leading an offence, he values communication, defence and the small details that contribute to winning basketball. His maturity and willingness to learn have already earned respect within high-performance environments.
