Akech Aliir
Biography
Akech Aliir joins the Wellington Saints as one of the most versatile and intriguing frontcourt additions in recent seasons.
At 6’9”, the athletic big man arrives from the South East Melbourne Phoenix in the Australian NBL, bringing experience from one of the most competitive leagues outside the NBA. Comfortable playing both the four and five, Aliir’s skill set stretches far beyond traditional frontcourt roles. He can space the floor, attack off the dribble, finish above the rim and defend multiple positions — making him a matchup problem on both ends.
Well known within the Saints environment through his time alongside Shea Ili and Nick Marshall in Australia, Aliir now steps into a larger opportunity in Wellington. With increased responsibility and a bigger platform to showcase his game, he is primed to take the next leap in his development.
Aliir’s motor and defensive versatility align perfectly with the Saints’ identity. His ability to switch, protect the rim and run the floor adds a new dimension to the roster, while his offensive flexibility opens space for teammates and keeps defences guessing.
Entering the upcoming season, Aliir represents a blend of athleticism, upside and professional experience, an exciting addition Saints fans will quickly come to appreciate.
