Saints back on top 23 May 2015

The Wellington Saints have ended their two game losing streak with an 85-76 win over the Mike Pero Giants.

Torrey Craig had 22 points and 13 rebounds, and Lindsay Tait tallied 16 points, seven rebounds and six assists for the Saints who return to the top of the table with eight wins and three losses.

Wellington welcomed back Leon Henry, who added 11 points and eight rebounds off the bench.

After trailing by as many as 15 points, Nelson fought to within four with still six and a half minutes left in the final period.

But the visitors regained the momentum, quickly putting their lead back up double digits.

McKenzie Moore top scored for the Giants with 20, but struggled from the field, shooting 9/24 from the field and 1/8 from the three point line.

Phill Jones was the next best with 16, and off the bench Mike Vukona added 10 points and four steals.

It was the second straight loss at home for the Giants, now at 7-3, but are still only half a game behind Wellington.

Tomorrow the Canterbury Rams (6-5) will look to keep with the pack when they host the IMS Payroll Hawks (3-6) who will be in must win mode to also stay within distance.
