Saints 7-1 after beating Nelson 04 May 2015

The Wellington Saints are back at the top of the table, giving the Mike Pero Nelson Giants their first loss of the season, final score 102-85.

Point guard Lindsay Tait controlled the contest with a double-double of 21 points and 14 assists, moving the defending champs to 7-1 for the season

Guard, Dion Prewster also scored 21, and off the bench Izayah Mauriohooho-Le’afa had 17 and Damien Ekenasio added 14.

It was always going to be a tough ask for the Giants, who came off a game the night before in Taranaki.

Nelson did come out strong in the first quarter to take a four point lead, but with the scores tied at 42, Wellington went on 13-0 run to end the half up 55-42.

A 29-20 third quarter from the home side put the game out of reach for Nelson who now go to 6-1.

Nelson guard McKenzie Moore led all scorers with 28, and centre Josh Duinker added 24, but collectively as a team they struggled, shooting 39% from the field.
