Saints, Sharks ready to decide regular season 05 Jul 2013

Sam Worthington - Dominion Post

The two hottest teams in New Zealand collide in Wellington tonight as the NBL regular season title goes on the line at TSB Bank Arena.

The league-leading Saints (13-2) are riding an eight-game winning streak and another win will ensure they enter the Final Four as top dogs.

After a slowish start, the Southland Sharks (11-3) are also humming under their new coach, Paul Henare.

The second-placed Sharks have won seven on the trot and victory by more than eight points tonight, plus a win in Nelson tomorrow, will give them the No 1 ranking for the July 13-14 finals tournament in Hawke's Bay.

Saints point guard Lindsay Tait said he was hoping to play tonight after scans cleared him of needing surgery on his injured left thumb.

Tait missed last week's wins over fellow top-four teams Nelson and Otago, and he and coach Pero Cameron will have to weigh up the risk of aggravating the injury versus the reward of the full side having a hit-out before the finals.
