Saints On Top 26 Jun 2013

WELLINGTON SAINTS have moved to the top of the Bartercard NBL table with a 107-87 win over JAMES BLOND SUPER CITY RANGERS.

After an extended break due to the postponement of last Friday night’s game, Saints were a little rusty against the Rangers, who were without leading rebounder DUANE BAILEY.

But the Rangers never looked like they would threaten the Saints, who held a double-digit lead for most of the contest.

COREY WEBSTER top-scored for the home side with 23 points, while centre RICK RICKERT went 8/8 from the field, to score 22 points, also adding 11 rebounds.

The Rangers had probably one of their best offensive games of the season, with six players reaching double digits.

Guard SHEA ILI was the best for the Rangers with 16, which included a furious dunk on the fast break.

Super City Rangers will have a few days rest before they travel to New Plymouth to play THE GOOD HOME TARANAKI MOUNTAIN AIRS on Saturday.

It will be an interesting week for the Saints, who host the FICO FINANCE NELSON GIANTS on Friday and then travel down south to play the OCEANAGOLD NUGGETS on Sunday.

Giants are only one game behind Wellington, while the Nuggets are only a half game behind, making it a tight race for the regular-season title.
