Saints End Nuggets Streak 29 May 2013

The Wellington Saints have put an end to the OceanaGold Nuggets unbeaten run, defeating them 102-93 at TSB Bank Arena.

Corey Webster returned from injury to score a game high 32 points, while Bryant Markson added 24 points and seven rebounds.

Lindsay Tait played the whole forty minutes tallying 20 points, 11 assists and seven rebounds.

The home side got off to a quick start leading the first quarter by 10 points, but the Nuggets would not let them get away closing to within single digits multiple times through the contest.

Nuggets did get to within one after a Mark Dickel three with eight minutes left in the fourth quarter, and it looked like there was a momentum shift.

But a 14-5 spurt by Wellington would push their lead back up to ten, thanks to a Tait three.

Nuggets would again make a run, closing the gap to five, but when Tait hit another three, it signalled the end to visitors hopes of a comeback win.

Shooting guard Hayden Allen had his best game with the Nuggets scoring 22, while Antoine Tisby added 18.

League leading scorer Beny Anthony had 18, but it was not his night as he shot 8/22 from the field and fouled out.

Dickel fought hard for his team adding a double-double of ten points and ten assists, but as a team the Nuggets were unable to contain Wellington defensively, as they shot 60% from the field.

Nuggets who are still at the top of the table will now travel up north to play the Advice Waikato Pistons on Thursday, while the Saints will also travel up north to play the HBS Bank Hawks on Saturday.
