Tait signs multi-year deal with Saints 05 Dec 2012

Tall Blacks Point Guard Lindsay Tait has signed a multi-year deal with the Wellington Saints, becoming the largest agreement in the clubs 30 year history.

30 year old Tait claimed his third consecutive championship title this season while playing for the Auckland Pirates.

Tait has won 7 championships while playing in the NZ NBL. Three titles with the Auckland Stars between 2000 and 2007, two back to back titles for the Saints in 2010 and 2011, and most recently the Auckland Pirates in 2012.

Dominating the NBL Guard Awards over the past decade, Tait was voted Most Outstanding Guard and Most Outstanding NZ Guard in 2012 season, and has been named in the All-Star Fives seven times.

Pero Cameron, Saints coach, is thrilled to have Tait back in the Saints uniform.

“He’s been the most dominant Point Guard in New Zealand for a number of years now. He trains hard and prepares for games like a true athlete. He’s a great leader and role model for the rest of the team.”

Playing for the NZ Breakers during their first three seasons, Tait has also played for the Wollongong Hawks and Cairns Taipans in the Australian NBL.

Tait made his international debut against the Czech Republic in 2003, won a silver medal at the 2006 Melbourne Commonwealth Games, and was the starting point guard at the 2010 FIBA World Championships in Turkey.

Saints Chief Executive Nick Mills is excited about what the future will bring for the Saints organisation.

“Lindsay was upfront and honest about his reasons for playing in Auckland last year, family always comes first and we 100% support that. This is the largest and longest contract we have ever negotiated in the history of the Saints which reflects the hard working team player Lindsay is.”

With the signing of Tait, the Saints now have three remaining spots left on their roster to fill for next year’s NBL.

As well as Tait, the Saints have now confirmed Dillon Boucher, Casey Frank, Corey Webster, Damien Ekenasio, Jordan Mills, and Arthur Trousdell on the 2013 roster.

The Bartercard NBL is set to tip off 1 April 2013.
