Tait arrives to challenge Cameron 05 Mar 2013

Superstar Point Guard Lindsay Tait arrived in Wellington yesterday to prepare for the 2013 Bartercard NBL season.

30 year old Tait won his third consecutive championship title last year and will be aiming to make it four this season, a challenge to coach Pero Cameron, who won four consecutive NBL titles for the Waikato Pistons from 1999 to 2002.

Tait, who has been residing in Auckland is excited to be back, and ready to begin training for what has become a highly anticipated Saints season.

During the off-season, Tait has proved that he is not just a superstar on the court. While at home in Auckland, he has devoted much of his time developing youth programmes in Auckland and in particular with Youthtown City basketball Club aimed at providing opportunities for inner city youth who do not have access to a local club to play.

The programme allows children and teens aged 7-18 to receive coaching advice, playing tips, and skills training from the NBL point guard.

Lindsay Tait’s dedication to the game and belief in building a strong basketball community is something for the members of the greater Wellington region to be excited about.

He will undoubtedly bring a unique passion and devotion to the game both on and off the court this season.

Tait has won 7 championships while playing in the NZ NBL. Three titles with the Auckland Stars between 2000 and 2007, two back to back titles for the Saints in 2010 and 2011, and most recently the Auckland Pirates in 2012.

Dominating the NBL Guard Awards over the past decade, Tait was voted Most Outstanding Guard and Most Outstanding NZ Guard in 2012 season, and has been named in the All-Star Fives seven times.

The NBL Bartercard 2013 season is set to tip-off 19th April.
